Our Founder
Robert Baden-Powell
The Scout Movement was founded by Lord Baden Powell (BP), a military officer in the British Army who founded the Movement in 1907 through an experimental camp at Brownsea Island.
The Beginning
After an outstanding military career, particularly in the Siege of Mafeking, BP was asked to work out a programme to instill good citizenship in boys. He refined his ideas on a non-formal education for young people and led an experimental camping trip on Brownsea Island for boys aged 12-15 on 1 August 1907. He then published a handbook “Scouting for Boys” in 1908, which received tremendous reception and led to the start of the worldwide Movement.

The Beginning
Scouting in Singapore was inaugurated on 2 July 1910 by Frank Cooper Sands, a Scoutmaster from the United Kingdom, who started the first Scout Troop in Singapore.
