Proficiency Badge Scheme (Young Naturalist Badge – Tier 1)
The West Area is pleased to inform you that we will be conducting the above-mentioned badge scheme for the scouts section. The badge scheme is conducted in collaboration with the National Parks Board (NParks) and Gardens by the Bay (GB); we have rolled out the Naturalist Badge Scheme in an effort to promote interest in and awareness on the environment as well as its protection and conservation. We hope our Scouts will learn more about our natural habitats and biodiversity, and recognises the innovative blend of the ‘natural’ environment with modernity in Singapore.
Upon attaining the Young Naturalist Badge, a Young Person qualifies as an “Ambassadors of our Parks and Gardens”. It is a mark of distinction, displaying passion and commitment to our love for nature. The badge scheme consists of three tiers and only TIER 1 is offered for this run. The details are as follow:
Young Naturalist Badge Tier 1 (Interest and Awareness Level)
a. Young Environmentalist Badge (YEB)
Guided Programme at Gardens by the Bay (3 hrs) – Conducted both conservatory domes and outdoor gardens of GB
Self-Guided Programme at Gardens by the Bay (2 hrs) - Garden Trail brochures will be shared later; Upon ordering of tickets they will provide some info.
b. Young Nature Surveyor Badge (YNSB)*
Young Nature Surveyor Badge Programme (4 hrs) – Conducted at Kranji Wetlands
c. Volunteer Activity with NParks (2 hrs; Fridays only)
Participants must complete all three components in order to be awarded the YNB Tier 1 Badge.
Young Environmentalist Badge (YEB)
Date: 13th May 2017
Time: 0800 hrs – 1300 hrs
Venue: Gardens by the Bay Ticketing counter (Meeting point)
Attire: Full scout uniform
Things to bring: Writing materials, water bottle, light snacks, personal FA kit
Young Nature Surveyor Badge (YNSB)
Date: 14th May 2017
Time: 0800 hrs – 1200 hrs
Venue: Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve Visitor Centre
Attire: Light colored top and long pants with comfortable shoes
Things to bring: Insect repellent, water bottle, light snacks, writing materials, personal FA Kit, binoculars (if you have)
To be arranged individually by participants in consultation with Programme Leader. To be completed 1 month after completing activity (a) and (b).
$15 ($2 for the badge scheme, $10 for GB entrance, $3 for printing and certificates)
No transport will be provided. Participants are required to meet at the meeting point as indicated in the venue.
